Bringing Plants To The Masses

Today after volunteering at Belle Isle, I headed over to The Red Hook in Detroit for the debut of the Detroit Flower Truck. This is the brainchild of Lisa Waud, the creator of Flower House Detroit and owner of Pot and Box.

I asked Lisa what made her think of driving around in a truck selling plants and flowers. She said she looked at food trucks and thought, “They need to quit hogging all the mobile retail.” So, she bought an old ice cream truck, fixed it up and filled it with flowers and plants. As you can see in the above picture, pieces of the flower house are incorporated into the design of the vehicle. The truck will be in different places in Detroit 3 days a week, bringing plants to the masses. You can find the schedule here.

The debut was from 3-6 today and before 3, people were lining up to see what Lisa would have, including me.

When the side of the truck opened, the array of plants and flowers was breathtaking!

What’s really great is, the flowers and plants are all grown in the USA. The houseplants are from a local Plymouth grower.

What a great idea this is! I hope you can visit the truck soon and see for yourself.

Bravo, Lisa!
